Jobson Marangoni De Castro, a 37-year-old man from Beverly Hills, was arrested in August 2023 after being charged with interstate transportation of stolen property. He faces a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison if convicted. 

Stolen Goods for Sale

According to the criminal complaint, two residents of Brazil traveled to Beverly Hills in May 2023 to attend a fashion event. The day after the event, the defendant went to the victim's hotel room and convinced a hotel employee to give him a key to their room. While the victims were having dinner, the defendant allegedly stole six suitcases containing jewelry, clothing, and accessories. In total, the suitcase's contents are worth over $1.8 million.

A week after the defendant supposedly stole the luggage, he traveled to Miami and messaged a buyer on Instagram, notifying the buyer of what he wanted to sell. He claimed that the items belonged to his late mother, and he did not have the paperwork for the items, which included a diamond necklace and a luxury watch. The jewelry the defendant tried to sell matched the description of the items stolen from the victim's hotel room.
